Panthers vs. Red Hots

The Panthers end the regular season with a 4-game winning streak, cranking out lots of hits and beating the Red Hots 19-10 !

The Panthers and Red Hots met on the outfield grass today, as the regular fields were too wet for play. The Panthers came out swinging! Marissa started us with a hit and then Justina slammed a double. Justina really hustled and tried to stretch it into a triple, but got put out on a good play by the Red Hots. Olivia and Kelly got hits and that brought Lisa to the plate. Lisa cranked out a hit to drive in Olivia, then Melanie followed with a hit to drive in Kelly. Kristen followed her last 3-hit game with a hit to drive in Lisa and move Melanie to third base. Rene stepped to the plate and drove in the fifth run. Panthers led 5-0 going into the bottom of the first.

In the bottom of the first inning, the first two Red Hots got hits. With no outs, Lisa fielded a grounder at third base and got the forceout. The next runner hit a grounder to Marissa at pitcher, who fired to Kelly at first base for the out. With runners on second base and third base and two outs, Lisa snagged a hard hit ball at third base. She quickly turned and got the tag out on the runner moving to third. One run scored on the play, so the Panthers led 5-1 after one inning.

In the second inning, the Panthers kept up the great hitting. Maudie started us with a hard grounder just past the first baseman. Marissa got a hit and Justina got her second hit of the day. Olivia hit into a fielder's choice, forcing Justina at second base, and then Kelly hit a screaming grounder down the third base line and into left field. Lisa got a hit and then Kristen got another hit to drive in Kelly! We loaded the bases but didn't score any more runs. We got 4 runs though! The Red Hots had their best inning in the second inning, scoring 5 runs. Justina played a good inning at pitcher. And Olivia made a great play at third base by catching a pop fly! After two innings, the Panthers led 9-6.

In the third inning, the Panthers got 5 more runs with lots of hits. The highlights were Justina's hit over second base and Lisa's fifth-pitch triple to dead center field! In the bottom of the third inning, the Panther defense held tough. Kelly caught a pop fly at pitcher to get their first batter and then the Panther defense withstood some solid hitting. The Red Hots didn't score anything, so the Panthers led 14-6 after 3 innings!

The Panthers weren't through! Maudie got a hit and then Marissa got her fourth hit of the day! Justina followed Marissa with another hit, giving Justina a 4 for 4 day! Olivia got a hit and then Kelly hit another screamer right down the third base line! Melanie got a hit to drive in our fifth run! In the bottom of the inning, the Red Hots got a lot of hits and were able to score 4 runs. Maudie prevented further scoring by snagging a grounder at third base and getting the forceout! Time ran out, so the Panthers ended up winning 19-10 !

Lots of girls had super hitting days. Marissa, Justina, and Kelly went 4 for 4 at the plate. Kristen and Rene went 3 for 3. Everyone had at least two hits!! But Coach Rodney picked out Justina as our Panther of the Day !! Justina had 4 clutch hits and played a perfect inning at pitcher! And 13 stitches in her chin didn't even slow her down! Great game Justina!!
