Jefferson challenged a king,
declaring self-evident truths;
Paine concurred
and Madison framed,
but we think not praise the quill.
Michelangelo toiled for years
creating his holy frescoes;
Monet impressed
and Pollock dripped,
but we think not praise the brush.
Madmen craft venomous words,
spewing hatred for miserable lives;
Marx inspired
and Kaczynski railed,
but we think not blame the pen.
Yet when evil rises to act,
spilling innocent blood in classrooms,
Littleton weeps
and Blacksburg wails,
then we dare to blame the gun.
